We went to the zoo this weekend! It was Isabella's first trip to the zoo. The weather was picture-perfect, and even though it was pretty crowded, we had a wonderful time! Isabella didn't really notice the animals too much (she liked looking at the water, the bushes, and the rocks much more), but she was super-happy all day, so it was worth it.
Isabella did not like her first carousel ride.
Isabella update: What has Miss Isabella been up to since she turned 1 you may ask? Well, it was pretty funny but almost immediately after her birthday she started doing conversational babble. She's always been a babbler and even said her first couple of words at about 9 1/2 months. But lately her babble has had the intonations of a conversation. It is so cute that I video it every chance I get, so I'll try to get some of that up soon. She also used her walker for the first time the other day. She looks like an old lady but is getting better at it! She is such a speedy crawler that she probably doesn't want to take the time to try to walk. She likes to play peek-a-boo with herself in the mirror. That is fun to watch. She still loves her books! We actually get to the point some days where we have to hide the books for a little while and encourage her to play with her toys. Her favorite book lately is "Old Mother Hubbard". The artwork in this particular version is very fun and bright and I also think she likes the sing-song nature of the story. It doesn't make sense to me though. If Old Mother Hubbard has empty cabinets and no bone for her dog, why does she buy him a coat, a hat, a wig, and some shoes, and by the end, he has some supper? I don't get it. Anyway. It is so fun to see her learn something new every day. She is learning how to play with her toys such as dropping balls down ramps. She is also learning cause and effect with us. She used to spit out her yogurt (funny) and so we would put on our most serious faces and shake our heads and say "no no Isabella, don't do that". So now when she is in her high chair she will stick her tongue out and spit and then shake her head back and forth. It is hilarious but we just have to be good parents and not laugh at her! She has been sleeping well lately (knock on wood). We went through a few rough weeks but now she is going down very easily, sleeping (mostly) through the night and taking good naps (my next post will say how she isn't sleeping any more, but such is the life of a baby). She is also still a good eater and is also still nursing, about 3x per day.
We voted this weekend! It only took us 30 minutes. I can't believe Election Day is a week away! And the country holds its breath...
