Summer!

Yay! My summer has finally started, where I'm not having to work every day! I'm working 3 days a week this summer, which started last week (I was in ATL for 3 days and didn't go to work on Th and F). I officially start my new position today, July 1, so although I'm afraid 3 days/week won't quite be enough, I'm determined to make it work. We'll see how it goes...

On Thursday, the girls wanted to paint. Since the 100+ degree heat wave hadn't yet hit, I wanted to get in some outside time, so I looked up how to make sidewalk paint. EASY! 1/4c cornstarch + 1/4c water + 8 drops food coloring. If you remember my duck cupcake debacle, you may know that I am pretty opposed to food dye, so I'm not quite sure why I had some on hand. What we were almost out of though, was corn starch. So we walked up to Harris Teeter (during this outing, I hired my first employee!), came back, and had fun mixing colors to make paint. The girls had a blast with the paint, though I did wish for some actual bristle brushes instead of the cheap sponge ones.

After painting (you can see some of the food dye got on Isabella's face), we went to the 4th of July party at the girls' school. During which I found out about some Facebook drama going on...whaaat? Are we 4 or are we the PARENTS of 4 year olds? The root of the story is that one of my friends posted a funny story on her page, but the mother (not FB friends with the poster) of one of the kids in the story didn't appreciate her son being included in the post. Instead of going directly to the original poster, a friend of the offended mom went to the director of the daycare, who then had to confront my friend, and which spurred an entire new policy that daycare employees can no longer be friends with parents at the school. My friend then unfriended the "tattler", who then texted her asking "did you unfriend me on FB?" GEEZ! Although there are valid points to be made here regarding privacy on FB, I was still astonished that a simple funny story could turn into so much drama between parents at daycare.

Anyway, we're going to try to enjoy a drama free summer! Looking forward to library time, playdates with friends we don't get to see much during the school year, a trip to the beach, MUSEP (when it's not too hot), and plenty of time at the POOL! Isabella is really doing well swimming. She is starting to use her arms like she's swimming freestyle, is trying to be able to pick her head up to breathe and put it back down, is attempting to swim on her back (though she usually ends up underwater), and loves doing belly flops off the side of the pool. Bailey is discovering that she likes the freedom that the float gives her. She is fearless when she "jumps" off the side of the pool (she doesn't always get her feet off the ground, usually it is just a fall), and even requests to go off the diving board, which she can only do when both Nick and I are there, since one of us has to walk her to the edge and drop her in and the other one catches her.
