Bailey update!

This picture was taken on the same weekend in the same spot (see post on the stick castle) that we had our first Poison Control scare - I caught Bailey with a mushroom in her mouth while we were having a picnic - I really don't think she ate any of it, but we called PC anyway, and they said "you need to give her ipecac within 30 minutes, oh but you probably won't be able to find it because most pharmacies don't carry it anymore" And since the PHARMACY at the nearest CVS hadn't even HEARD of ipecac, we didn't give it to her, and she ended up being fine. I don't think she ate any of the shroom or that the species in question was even poisonous. I was just glad that she didn't eat the mushroom called "Death Angel", which is featured prominently on some website listing the poisonous mushrooms of NC.
This is the carseat that we got from the Deasys, used by both Emma and Paul, and then passed down to Bailey to use in Libby's car. Bailey is no longer in Libby's care, as she has started a new job. We feel so fortunate that Libby was able to care for Bailey this year - Bailey had such a great year with such a wonderful, loving friend caring for her. She loved playing with Disa and really loved Luc - he basically adopted her as his baby, protected her, and put up with all of her grabbing. Bailey is now at Little Mouse two days a week for the summer and while I was originally very emotional about the transition, Bailey wasn't. She jumped right on in there like a champ and is doing really well! She did get her first illness, which started out as a runny nose (the daycare cold, we thought) and turned into a fever virus - she ran a fever for almost a week, also had ulcers on her throat and an ear infection. Tonight Bailey climbed into the carseat, pulled on the straps, and then started waving and saying "bye bye". She is a smart cookie!

See the mark between her eyes? She fell down two sets of stairs in two days. One at home - where she got a large bump on her forehead. The next at a playset at the Natural Science Center, where I caught her, but not before she scratched her face. She has no fear, but she also is a fast learner and is smart enough not to make the same mistake more than once (usually).
Once she started walking, she never looked back! She LOVES it! It has been fun to see the progression from wobbler to walker. My favorite is when she pivots, which she is getting much better at. When she first started walking, she would throw one of her legs way out to the side when she was about to lose her balance.
What a HAM!! She definitely has inherited Nick's sense of humor.

Words to describe Bailey:
  • purposeful
  • hilarious
  • adurrrable
  • intelligent
  • practical
  • determined
  • loving
  • endearing
  • social
  • attention seeking
  • stubborn
  • quick learner

--Once again, a post started with the intent to keep going. But now it is starting to get out of date.

But a quick update:

Bailey is on her 2nd fever virus of the summer. Started yesterday, fever abated this morning (of course, she was fever free while at the doctor for her 15 mo appt), but was back up this afternoon. No ear infection, which is a good thing!

15 month appointment: everything looks good! She is definitely an "Aceves baby" - >97% in weight and her height jumped up to the 97%ile, I think before it was in the 70s/80s. She is nearly 29 pounds. We love our practice, but was able to see our favorite practitioner today, Donna Brandon, the PA in the office. She commented "Bailey seems much more apprehensive of me than Isabella was at this age." And she is so right! Although Bailey tends to stare people down and not really smile like some babies, it is definitely more of a curiosity thing and the second she feels like she can trust you, she is ready to start interacting! It will be so interesting to see how that part of her personality develops as she gets older. She asked how many words she has and I said, hmm, 5-10. Which is above the normal range of 3-6. But then I really wanted to count.
In no particular order:
-dada (her most used word, other than DAT, which I don't really count as a word)
-mama (she finally started calling me mama instead of dada, yay!)
-Lella (Isabella)
-dog
-cat
-bye bye (she recently switched from ba ba to actually accentuating the byee byee)
-hi
-lololo (hello - when she is talking on the phone)
-shoes
-bath
-pool (she said this just the other day)
-cup
-uh uh (accompanied by a forceful shake of her head)
That's all I can think of right now(12) but she also can make the sounds for:
-sheep
-horse
-goat
-pig
-dog
-cat (just started doing that)
-dinosaur
-tiger
-owl
-duck
-bird
-rocket ship (accompanied with raising her arms above her head)
-motor vehicle (vroom)
She is also continuing to sign:
-more
-all done
-milk
-water
-eat
-down
-diaper
-light (has done that a couple times)

Just over the last week she has really started to lose the "wobble" in her walk. For the past couple of weeks she just looked so wobbly but was actually pretty steady on her feet, it just looked like she was going to fall down every couple of steps. It was funny to me to remember Isabella's 15 month appointment when I was concerned because she wasn't walking yet (Isabella does things when Isabella decides she is ready!), and Bailey is ready to run!

Ok, tired of the mommy bragging? ;) You know I do this INSTEAD of writing in baby books, right? Anyway, here are some more adorable pictures.

Libby and Disa stopped by this weekend. Due to both of our families having busy schedules, we actually hadn't seen them since Libby stopped keeping Bailey, over a month ago! When they first got there, Bailey did the aforementioned stare-them-down, but she quickly remembered who they were and engaged in lots of hugs, kisses, and giggles. She was quite happy to play with the big girls and gave Disa lots of hugs.
