Stick Castle
Thanks to our friend Libby for sharing this little gem with us - this is a sculpture at Guilford College made entirely from sticks. It is a lot of fun - you can walk all through it so it is a great place to play, a nice alternative to a playground. We went there 3 times in one week, twice for picnics.
One of our picnics resulted in our first (and hopefully last!) call to Poison Control. Since Bailey was just on the blanket (as opposed to in her little seat), she was crawling around while eating. I guess she couldn't tell the difference between her food and a WILD MUSHROOM that I happened to see her spit out. So yes, we called Poison Control. Oh, give her ipecac within 30 minutes they said. But you might not be able to find it because a lot of pharmacies don't carry it anymore. Evidently not, because the pharmacy we called had never even HEARD of it! So no ipecac for Bailey. Which was kind of a relief because I really didn't want to make her throw up. I don't think she ate any of it, because I found a mushroom nearby that was missing half of its cap, and Bailey spit out half of a cap, so I think she just put it in her mouth. But it was pretty stressful, especially when I was looking online for poisonous mushrooms in NC and saw the one called "Death Angel", which luckily looked nothing like Bailey's little shrooms.
Anyway, other than the mushroom incident, we enjoy spending time at the "stick castle". It was built in February and will be up for a year unless the elements tear it down sooner. So if you're in town and looking for something different to do, you should check it out. It is in the middle of campus, on the big quad, or green, or whatever. You could park near the auditorium or we usually park back near the athletic fields.
