Argh...I definitely earned myself the bad mom award tonight. Running around cooking while holding Bailey, the chicken slipped into the pan and splattered scorching hot oil all over me and Bailey. She screamed. I screamed. Nick wasn't home yet. She settled down pretty quickly though, so I finished making dinner and then we took another look at ourselves. We both had red and purple welts all over the place, me on my foot and stomach and Bailey on her leg. So off to urgent care we went. Luckily we just have superficial second degree burns that should heal pretty easily but will be very visible for 3 months or so. But she has been such a trooper! I was in some pain but she hasn't been fussy at all! So...lesson learned, the hard way :( I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow, just because it looks so much worse than it is! This picture at the top was taken literally 3 minutes before it happened.
Ouch! But seriously, it hasn't seemed to bother her at all! I'm trying to dig out all of her capri pants so it can be covered up.
In other news...school started this week! Our household has been a little out of sorts as the girls and I adjust to waking up early and being at work/school for 5 straight days. And it is an adjustment for Nick, too, since he has to be at work earlier but get the girls to school first. The girls are more tired/cranky so I'll be glad when they get adjusted, even though it'll mean that they'll wake up earlier on weekends. I am enjoying my new responsibilities at work and am just as busy as ever, though am more involved with the kids, so that's been good, though a little more tiring/stressful. I am teaching just 1 class right now, 2nd grade math. It's going to be an adjustment from 5th grade!
Bailey seems to enjoy school, from what I can tell, though it tires her out. Her verbal skills are increasing, she tries to repeat more things and she also babbles, reads, and sings in more of a conversational pattern. Though she is still a fan of the grunt and point, and her favorite word is still DAT!
Isabella is really growing up! Sometimes I look at her and can't believe how grown up she is. We still hear lots of stories about work and my brother Charlie. She must really like school because she often plays school when we get home. And I can always tell what her teacher is like because Isabella echoes what she hears at school all day. And Mrs Pegi is great!

Oh... so sorry. I am glad to read it looks worse than it feels...because it does not look good!
It could have happened to any of us, that's the price some of us multi-tasking moms have to pay I guess. But it sucks. So many times I catch myself thinking "I should not be doing that" but you do because things need to get done. Overall we are very lucky that it does not happen more often. Sorry you have to be the one reminding us to slow down sometimes.
xoxo to Bailey.
PS: She saw me at daycare on Friday and was looking at me like "what are you doing here?"...
Oh my goodness!!!! Guylene's right though - it could easily happen to any one of us. No bad mom award for you, sorry! :)
Hope the transition back to school life is quick!!
I"m sorry that happened, but glad everyone is okay. I am always thinking to myself "i should not be doing this." I hope you all heal quickly.
